Constitution


1. Name

 The association shall be called The Association of Catholic Chaplains in Education.



2. Aims and Objectives

The aim of the Association is to further the development of the spiritual and Pastoral care exercised in schools and colleges by

(In this Constitution, chaplain means any Catholic chaplain whether canonical chaplain or otherwise. College means Sixth Form College.)

(The Officers, including the National Co-ordinator, will be elected for a maximum of two terms of three years at an Annual General Meeting. The elected member who has been in office for the longest period of time shall retire at the Annual General Meeting. Retiring elected members are eligible for re-election after a period of Three years.)


6. Episcopal Advisor

 A member of the Bishops’ Conference of England and Wales shall be Episcopal Advisor to the Association.


7. General Meetings

 The Annual General meeting shall be held once a year, normally during the Annual Conference.

(Notice of items for discussion at the Annual General Meeting should be sent to the Conference Secretary no less than 21 days before the meeting. Other items may be added at the discretion of the National Coordination Team.)


Only ordinary members who have paid the Annual subscription and Ex officio Members are entitled to vote at any Annual General Meeting.


 A Special General Meeting may be called at any time by the National Coordination Team.


8.  Affiliation to the Catholic Education Service

 The Association shall be affiliated to the Catholic Education Service.


9. Amendment

 This Constitution may be amended at a General Meeting of the Association provided that

a) a notice of the General Meeting is sent to members at least 21 days in advance of the meeting specifying the proposed amendment(s).

b) a resolution is passed at that meeting by not less than two-thirds of the members present and voting.

c) The amendment shall not be effective if it would have the effect of making the Association cease to be within the charitable objectives of the body to which the Association is affiliated.



10. Dissolution

The Association may be dissolved in the same way as an amendment to the Constitution in 9 above. In the event of dissolution all assets remaining after the satisfaction of any proper debts and liabilities shall pass to the Catholic Education Service for its general objects.
